During metal mining and after primary crushing, metallic ores will enter into AG/SAG mills to be further crushed and prepared for the processing stages. These mills have the highest energy consumption among all the mining equipment, also have a key role in determination of production capacity.
Following the policy of localization of producing casting parts used in mining industry, Tabarestan Steel Foundry (TSF) has been producing lining parts for these mills since 20 years ago. The successful performance of the first series of TSF products for Chadormalu Iron Ore mine, led to the attraction of orders from other Iranian iron ore mines as well as copper mines such as Sarcheshmeh, Songun and Meiduk. Production of SAG mills’ liners for gold mines in Russia is one of TSF achievements in its export activities.
The high energy consumption of these large mills and the tendency to increase the efficiency of mining action have arisen a worldwide demand to increase the efficiency of AG/SAG mills through different methods including the optimization of mill lining system. Following this approach, TSF has been always trying to increase the quality of its products in order to increase their lifetime without changing mill’s expected output.
At first, TSF concentrated on developing the metallurgical properties of the products. The attempts then proved to be effective according to the available feedback records.
In addition to the metallurgical improvements, TSF with the help of its foreign partner, succeeded to modify SAG mill liners’ design which then showed to have a very satisfactory performance.
This new experience enabled the company to approach local market with the new potentials of design development which is now backed up by the simulation report of feed material and grinding media trajectory.
Below two case studies are summarized to show the scale of TSF projects for the local mining sector.
Chadormalu Complex, SAG mill, line 4
For the first set of TSF liners, the reported mill output was 450,000 tons which corresponded to the previous records from original liners.
In the next step, the output increased to 700,000 tons and remained nearly the same for the next working periods.
Further modification of TSF liners was performed and the mill output reached to more than 1,100,000 tons which was variable up to 1,600,000 tons according to the latest records.
Songun Copper Complex, SAG mill, line 1
Increasing the lifetime of discharge diaphragms from the initial 6 months to 14 months.
Increasing the lifetime of shell liners from 6 months to 9 months.
Increasing the lifetime of feed end liners from 6 months to 12 months.
